Looming inspiration from the needles

So after making the lacy shawl on the needles, I was determined to figure out a nice lace pattern on the Knifty Knitter looms! The one thing I enjoy most about these looms is the openness of the knitting due to the gauge and peg size. Some people see this as a drawback - I however try to look at it as inspiration for some different looking things that can really only be duplicated on a large gauge knitting loom like the Knifty Knitters.

So...I put my mind to it and came up with this pattern. My entire shawl isn't completed yet - but I've been madly working on it. I'm simply in love with the fabric that the stitches create!

The thing I like about it is you can't tell it came off a KK loom! Now - I wonder if I could duplicate this pattern on the needles.... It would be kinda hard to duplicate the waviness of the "ribs" going up. See how the slightly jog back and forth?

Some stats of the shawl:

Title: Waves of Lace Shawl
Yarn: 100% cotton - Omega brand "Sinfonia" Sport Weight yarn 2 balls
Yardage: about 400 yards
Color Used: Azul Nordico (C816)
Loom Used: New Kifty Knitter II long green loom used as a single rake. However, this pattern can be created on any large gauge loom as long as you use an even number of pegs.
Skill Level: Intermediate to advanced loomers
Dimensions: Approximately 30 inches wide (if you use 50 pegs like I did) by 60 inches (or whatever length you'd like)
Other Notes: I got my yarn, and my new Knifty Knitter long loom set, at Hobby Lobby. I've never seen the yarn before, but I found this online. I really like the yarn and would definitely use it again! Also, I know this little beauty will need to be blocked to get the right finished look. Lace stitches just never look right without a good blocking. Here's a little tutorial that I used to learn how on my needle knits.

Latest projects on the needles

So I just finished this lace shawl for display at Michael's. I sort of started it on a whim while I was demoing last week and ended up asking if they'd like something else to display in the store. Of course my EC jumped at it. It's actually really pretty after I got it all done. I had my doubts while knitting it as I haven't had much luck with free yarn company patterns. This ones pretty good though.



Here's the stats:

Pattern: "Beautiful Shawl" pattern from Patons
Yarn: Patons Silverlash in color "Crystallite Cream" (as specified)
Yarn Amount: 2 balls + a little bit for the fringe. The pattern says 4 - way off! I'm sure they just want you to buy more then required.
Needles: #15 circulars

I've also started a patterned dishcloth for my Mom. She loves knit cotton dishclothes and I always end up making them for her for Christmas. This one will be the first addition to my Christmas gift box. I usually start knitting for Christmas around August which gives me plenty of time to make whatever I want and however big the project for everyone. Last year my Mom got a hand knit wool sweater. This is only possible if started in August :) !

Anyway, the dishcloth is pretty. I got the pattern out of a dishcloth pattern booklet I bought years ago. I had a ball of Sugar 'n Cream cotton and wanted to use it up. Dishclothes are the way to go here. The pattern booklet is called "Nifty Knit Dishcloths" - cheesy name but some nice simple designs if you are in the mood for getting fancy.

6:46pm - Update! I finished the dishcloth today. Cute aye? So geometric :)

Another finished needles project

With all the hub-bub of going to my friends wedding in Las Vegas I never got to post the shell I made for my trip! So, this shell has actually been done for 3-4 weeks AND its been worn several times - but it's just now getting the official blog FO fame. Here's the stats:

Pattern: ChicKnits Ribby Shell in the "ribbed all over" version
Yarn: Lion Brand Microspun
Color: Lily White
Needles: Denise Interchangeable size #7
Modifications: Made the torso a smidge longer
Notes: This is the second one I've made from this pattern and I really like the fit and comfort. I've found it's great for work or play. The last one I made using MicroSpun, too - so when I make it again I'll give another yarn a try. I'm thinking a nice cotton...

Look what I got!

Knifty Knitter 2 - long looms! 1 trip to Hobby Lobby and look what I come back with! :)

They are much bigger then I was expecting. This is exciting - the world of posibilities just opened up for me. Especially that long, long blue one used as a single rake! Since I don't own one of the nice infinity looms - this is the closest thing to freedom for me off the needles. I can't wait to dig in and start creating.

How does everyone like their set? I've heard mixed reviews about them right after they came out. Leave me a comment on your experience with them after getting a little use out of them.

New Yarn!

I was at Michael's today, demoing, and discovered a new yarn I have never seen. I think it's new - or maybe just new to Michael's. Caron Simply Soft Quick! It's Super Bulky weight (as seen in picture #2) - so its perfect for looming with a single strand on the KK's. I picked up a couple of skeins to give it a try. I love the worsted weight simply soft and this is just as soft. I can't wait to give it a try. I'll report back and let you know...
